over stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
overstocking is brilliant, reduces aggression and means the fish don't have to travel too far to eat.

Aim for about 1 monster fish per 2 gallons of water.

.. you are joking, right?

I intentially over stock with african cichlid display tanks, makes it real hard for one fish to run the tank, to much compitition.

Down side is that it more work, I have to perform large frequent water changes and clean out the pre-filter several time per week

hi whats your opinion on high stocking levels ive heard it stops fighting any advice :headbang2
Could you define overstocking? Also what kind of fish? If you are talking about fish like marbled gobies overstocking=overfeeding, of course they are not aggressive fish, just hungry ones.

Yeah I think there needs to be a better definition of overstocking here. I mean are we talking about too many small fish in a small tank or just a couple of very large fish in a tank that is way too small for them. I mean I don't think someone should put a fish in a tank that is not at LEAST as wide as the fish is long preferably at least 1.5 times as wide as the fish is long at LEAST. I think it is much better to overstock a tank with some fish that are a good size for the tank rather than just one or two fish that are much too large for a tank...

Hmm..is my tank overstocked? The dimensions are 84 x 30 x 30. I have one 12" dat, 10" dat, two 6"Dat, 10" indo, 8 inch silver dat, 6" thin bar, 12" ornate, 10" P. Butterkoefferi, 6" festae, 4" festae, 6" Ocellaris, 6" King Kong Parrot, 3" flowerhorn, 10" ATF, and 14" Sailfin Pleco.

I don't think this is overstocked.. but i would love to see pictures of this mix... I would say add a school of 10 temensis and you would achieve overstocked but also really cool

overstocking reduces fish behavior.

if you like watching fish mull about mindlessly, then overstocking is for you.
