overstocking reduces fish behavior.

if you like watching fish mull about mindlessly, then overstocking is for you.

:iagree:

Ive seen so many tanks like this (more cichlid tanks if any), I think to myself, why have the fish if you cant watch them act naturally???

indeed, you might as well just stick with tetras and small cyprinids, instead of overstocking with aggressive fish.

Hmm..is my tank overstocked? The dimensions are 84 x 30 x 30. I have one 12" dat, 10" dat, two 6"Dat, 10" indo, 8 inch silver dat, 6" thin bar, 12" ornate, 10" P. Butterkoefferi, 6" festae, 4" festae, 6" Ocellaris, 6" King Kong Parrot, 3" flowerhorn, 10" ATF, and 14" Sailfin Pleco.

Seems overstocked a tad, what your filter system like???

I am using a 801 powerhead inside to move the water in the bottom of the tank. Bottom is bare, and the sump is about 80 gallons. The media is not bioballs, but the "blue sponge" used in ponds. It covers more square area than your typical bioballs. Water change used to be every three days at 75%, but now I am doing twice a month water change at 50%. I used to test the water once a week for Nitrate, and ammonia only. Usually the Nitrate level is only at 10-20 ppm, and 0-5 ppm for ammonia. So I would say it is a pretty established tank.
