over tank trickle filter?

i havent set mine up yet.... but i cant see how it wouldnt work well... same concept as sump.... just overhead....

Actually the concept is more like a hang on back filter combined with a sump. Water flow is that of a HOB.

Very well. If you can get some pieces of glass, and silicone, plus a couple clamps, you can make one pretty easily, and cheap.

would it work if i had like a rubbermaid box with hole drill on lid for the water hose and fill with media and some holes on bottom and ill put it directly over the top of my tank

there is a Chinese LFS near me that makes these and custom tanks, he was saying back home space is very limited so a lot of people use this to save space. It is like a sit on top wet/dry filter...

yep. very very common here. works great too. especially for people who don't like canisters but dont have a drilled tank. [and are too lazy/scared to DIY overflow]... like me.
