Overfeeding juvi RTG?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya mine swells up cuz in 1 serving it intakes about 3 medium sized cooked market shrimp but cut up in bite sized pieces. Sometimes the next day I'll still see a slight buldge in it's belly. But usually at the end of the next day it's flat and hungry again. Mine has only grown an inch too and I've had my RTG for about a month now.

Yup will do. I do have T5 lighting on my tank but it's only a 3ft fixture on a 6ft tank:( Also with a black/black background+substrate so the pics turn out really dark...A friend of mine is donating a 4ft light fixture which takes 4 florenscent bulbs soon. Just been lazy to pick it up.

Haha we got lots of t&ts here too u can find anything in those stores. Buy yah I thought I should feed it raw instead of cooked. But then again aros eat anything. So yeah I tried feeding my rtg pellets this morning again before work and he rejected. So gonna starv him till I get home tonight.

The amount is fine for your aro. Do try to vary the diet though. Shrimp, crickets and pellets are all equally good.

dont feed your aro crickets.... not that i'm disagreeing with an aro guru about nutrition. its just from my personal experience after feeding crickets to my aros, they dont accept other foods for a long time. my red's appetite shrunk so much after i had to starve it off crickets.

Oh I will feed my RTG with raw shrimp once he grows to a bigger size. I just use the precook shrimp when young because they sell them cheaper and in smaller packaging size and less hassle of peeling the shell/tail off. Once he can down a whole sized shrimp I usually leave the shell on but tail peeled off. I feed raw whole shrimps to my stock in my 450g.

I'm not a guru, lol, but thanks for the compliment. And I don't see it so much as a disagreement about crickets. I know they can be like crack for some aros, but I had the same experience with my RTG and superworms. He won't eat anything else until 4-5 days later so I just don't feed him supers anymore. Aros can be really individual with diet and behaviour.

All info from each of our experiences is good in the end. :)

Nothing wrong with crickets, infact they are the best food to give an aro when it goes on a hunger strike to try and get it to eat again. Each arowana is different and some like different foods more than others.
