I'm wondering how bad overfeeding is. I probably do tend to overfeed my fish on a regular basis:eek:. All the food is eaten, but the fish look pretty full. There doesn't seem to be any problems. They are all healthy and I do 50% water changes once a week. Can someone please enlighten me?

over feeding can be bad, ever eat too much? now think fish may not know when to stop... I know they say to watch over feed mbuna, not for water, but for fish to get to fat...

I feed mine 2-3 times a day. There is only one fish in the tank that seems to get a big belly after eating. The rest look to be in great shape.

Should've put this with the last one. I feed so much because one fish is a lot smaller that the rest and I want to make sure that he gets enough to eat. Also, because I love watching cichlids eat.;)

Look at pictures of wild fish.... you never see them w/ full extended bellies. I would think it is OK maybe once a week to give them a super sized meal, but keep them on the leaner side. Not skinny, just full. I usually feed my fish every otherday, that way they pickup some algae off the rocks.

I feed mine 3 times a day, but limit the amount at each feeding. They are young and I am trying to grow them out. I will slow down once they get bigger.

I was thinking about taking the smaller one out and put him in a tank of his own, but then reintroducing him to the tank may have dire consequences. I'm sort of torn.

we have a variety of sizes in our tanks, even fry get released, if there are enough hiding niches in the rocks normally they are safe till they put on some size...

over feeding can cause problems but depends on what your feeding too....definetly have to watch out for bloat with africans....zebras tend to gorge, have ya ever seen a multi with a basket ball sized stomach? eeeek.....
