Heres what im thinking...Im gonna fill my overflow box up with scrubbies. From what I have been reading as long as the scrubbies do not interfere with my filter in any manner then it should be worth the work or at least it couldnt hurt. If this idea is in anyway not a good one someone please post a reply before I mess something up! I am thinking i might put eggcrate on top of the scrubbies to limit the chance of anything going wrong.

It should work, just don't pack them to tightly.
If you're not using mini stand pipes of some sort I think egg crate would be a good idea, a scrubby being sucked into the PVC running out the box would probably cause the tank to overflow. Raising the egg crate 1/4th an inch off the bottom using something plastic (a couple small lengths of egg crate under the large one) would be even safer.

Just make sure that it doesn't restrict the flow or they don't get sucked into the drain holes. I'll probably do the same thing after reading this, never can have to much bio.

I finally did it! I put the srcubbies in the overflow and I cut the eggcrate to fit snug around the pipes so it would hold the scrubbies from floating to the top.

After I took the pictures I closed off the rest of the overflow with more eggcrate. I pushed them about 8 inches down from the top. Funny thing is I had a wicked mean gurgle in the tank and since I put the scrubbies in I cant hear a sound. Pretty wierd...:nilly:

While I was putting the scrubbies in a heated debate between my Motaguense and Loisellei over which ones colors matched best with the scrubbies. My Dempsey decided he was unfairly represented in the project and took his objection up with the Motaguense. Finally my 20" arbitraitor stepped in and let them know I was the decision maker.
