This is the first time I'm going to be using an overflow box so I was wondering if anyone could provide some helpful tips on getting it started. I'm getting stuck on the the part where I need to start siphoning the water in from the U-Tube... I tried taking a air tube line like someone suggested, sucking in some of the water but I know I'm missing something because it didn't work for me.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I take an airline like you mention above and place the other end in a powerhead or outlet of a filter to push water in and it does the trick. You need to have water in the front box as well as the rear in order to start the syphon.

The other thing you can do is put the tube under water to fill it, then put sandwhich bags over both ends and put it back in the box. Pull out the bags and bam, syphon.

i think you need to start the pump from your sump first. so that means your tank needs to be filling up with water so when you use the air tube method to remove air inside the u-tube the force of the water filling up the tank will get the siphon going. be careful tho, cause if you're not fast enough your tank will over flow or your sump will run dry

These are clever tips... when I get home today I'll try them out.

For this one... did you mean to stick the tube in the intake area of a HOB filter or the outlet where the water comes out? The latter of the two sounds a little funny but I just wanted to double check.

you stick the airline into the u tube until its at the top of the u tube and suck all the air out.

Shoud the other end of the airline that is inside of the U-Tube be submersed inside of the water that is already there? Or should it be slightly above the water?
