Overflow help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with Kaiser about the overflow. Check for all the air being removed, then verify the diameter of your drain lines against the sticky and see if you have adequate plumbing. Sometime the will add a second siphon tube, but they won't increase the diameter of the pipe. It should really be about 1.5" PVC going to the sump.

As far as the noise, you can try one of three things to eliminate the noise.

1. Hofer Gurgle Buster.
2. Stuff something in the external overflow box to stop the splashing
3. Look for Chompers thread on the silent Overflow. You might be able to get away with putting a piece of air line in the PVC to help prevent the air from causing it to gurgle.

Just a few things off the top of my head.

Cavitation is the formation of vapour bubbles of a flowing liquid in a region where the pressure of the liquid falls below its vapor pressure.
Cavitation is usually divided into two classes of behavior: inertial (or transient) cavitation, and noninertial cavitation.

Neither of which has anything to do with a siphon.
You never mentioned your HOB overflow style.
They are either the Continuous siphon overflow or Eshopps.
Flow rates have a ton of things that can affect them.
First being an exaggeration of the actual flow from your overflow.
Sellers often up the realistic flow rates to make a sale, not all, but quite a few.
For your “balance” problem, most will simply install a valve in the return line, restricting it`s flow.
Others will “T” into the pump return line and divert any excess flow back into the sump through the use of a valve.
For the noise issue, you’re on your own. There are a huge number of posts devoted to making these things quieter.
Good Luck

The valve is a good idea ill go pick one up today. thank you

hmmm ill check into pipe size i dont think the pipe I have is 1.5
Ill chack into this Gurgle buster as well

Thanks!

sumps are not to run full of water but with a minimum of water

Depends on the sump.
Wet/dry or submerged media.
An open container or one with a number of divisions/spillways.
Sump is just the container for the media.
