Overflow question

No, if you do that then the secondary drain would try to operate as a full syphon and not a trickle. The end result would be a noisy secondary drain that sounds like a toilet bowl. By drilling the secondary drain higher allows some air to get in and operate as a durso.

That makes sense

My emergency drain is a pipe that sticks straight up, and has a trickle and keeps the full syphon main drain quiet. I don't see why an elbow and pipe would act any different.

I'm not running anything inside the overflow box, just open bulkheads. Like I said earlier it runs silently. It's a herbie drain and uses the same concept as the beam animal. Just without the second e drain.

I’m interested in learning more about your overflow setup. I’m currently tryin to design something efficient for a triple stacked rack of 40breeders. I’d love to see more of how your setup works

I don't have any different photos other then the ones I posted here, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have though.

thank you for the prompt response ! And omg I just realized your in NY too ! You might be my new best friend soon haha. But I’d love to pick your brain about overflow designs and filtration when you have time ?

36" wide overflow box for $90 with shipping:

Contact this guy through ebay, I'll be he will make you one to fit your tank perfectly for pretty much the same price. I am all for DIY but sometimes it is considerably cheaper to just buy one.

Do you want your overflow 30" wide to fill the width of your tank or do you want it an inch or two narrower do it is easier to install and work with?

How far below the top rim of your tank is the overflow mounted? I.e. How far between the top of the tank and the top of the overflow box.

What is your water level measured from the top rim of the tank?

What are the dimensions of the overflow?

What size return pump (gph?) are you running?

I am spec-ing out the overflow for my build and I am trying to figure out what my water level will be. Knowing the dimensions of your setup and your water level would be very helpful in giving me some idea of what to expect... if you don't mind sharing? Thank you!

I'm on vacation so I can't give you exact measurements right now. I can check when I get back, but I'm running about 300 gph through it, and the water level is just at the rim of the tank. I'm using a Jebo 4000 return pump.

This was my build thread on it maybe it will help.
