Overflow?

Overflows carry water over the top of your tank to a sump below. The sump in fw is usually a w/d sump. Then a pump brings the water back up.

now is that only for Aeration purposes there is filtration avantages?? I am planning a 125 or 150 gallon tank and i need some recommendations on how i am going to do this So many different ways but have only used charcoal filters before so to say i am uninformed

Overflows are used in conjunction with sumps or wet/dry filters to provide mechanical and biological filtration
a lot of people use them to save money over canister filters... people also believe that the filtration is better because you can customize it more so then with something like a Fx5 .. on the flip side canister filters seem to be easier and less work in the long run
i use Fx5's on my 150 and 125 along with rena 3's but im going to switch to sump so i can hide the heaters and UV under the tank in the sump ... mostly i think it comes down to what you really want .. read up on both and check how much you want to spend and that should help

You'd probably just be better off to search for the info you are looking for. There's a good chance that we have already discussed a lot of it at one time or another.

yea no book is going to be able to do what the people here can .. only a few people write a book . hundreds of people here work together to get the best advice you can get ... stick with posting here and ask away ..
