OVERFLOWED TANK THREAD!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
funniest thing ever my cousin does the siphoning old fashioned for one day because his sink was clogged i guess and he sucked in some tank water and came out his nose prolly the funniest thing ever

^lol

Just today i was doing a WC, i use a homemade python but i also use a 5 gallon bucket to rinse filter media, filters, hold driftwood and other decorations. I use an older siphon i have to drain some old tank water into the 5g bucket. And while rinsing out some gunk off some filter pads, i kept the water flowing in the 5g.... then

BAM my 5g bucket overflows /doh not much water on the floor had my towels on the ready hehe

But still you'd think i'd remember it's still getting drained out of the tank. I gotta admit i think it's happend atleast a half dozen times. :hitting:

Haven't had a tank overflow in awhile though. And thankfully nothing needing fans to dry an area. /knocks on wood.

We have a filter room behind our tank. There's a 55 gallon tank on a high shelf that we keep full of heated conditioned water to pump into our big tank when doing water changes. There is a line from a utility sink running up to the 55 gallon tank to fill it up. One evening when I was going to wash dishes, there was no hot water. I envisioned having to buy a new water heater. When I told my husband we had no hot water, he rushed out to the garage and into the old converted furnace room/now filter room to turn the water off. It had been running all day. Fortunately, there's a trap door leading to a crawl space under the house. The majority of the water ended up under the house. Our wooden floors were safe!

We had our water heater in our basement flood......twice. The second time was when we just got our basement finished. Both times were a mess to clean up, pretty much flooded our basement.

not me yet...(knock on wood) but I tend to overfill my water storage barrels from time to time. luckily its in the garage.. i just use a broom squeegy to push out the water.

Happens to me once a month, usually because I'm on MFK when I should be watching the water level.

Lol.
That's pretty much what I was about to post.

Luckily I'm DRAINING a tank right now, and it's the turtles so even if it drains too low who cares, and they're being moved in a few anyway. I try not to post anymore when I'm filling anything, unless I'm sitting RIGHT in front of the tank with my laptop.

I've never fallen asleep while filling a tank luckily. That's my biggest paranoia, so I won't even fill a tank when I'm the least bit tired. The most I've overflowed is my 125g native tank, and I think I let that one go for about an hour. There was probably water going on the floor for about 20-30 mins and it still ended up being a whole lot :(.
All the other times as soon as I heard the splash on the floor I immediately reversed the python, and most of the tanks that's happened to have been in the kitchen, so no carpet or anything.

When I was filling my 120 I decided to go watch tv with my little brother and check on my tank every 10 min. Well 30 min. past since the last time I checked and there was water all over the floor. My mom didn't really care but I thought my dad was going to kill me.

Heres a new one, i was doing a water change in my basement AKA fishroom, bedroom, and my living room.

So i have a valve behind a painting in my house that turns the water spicket on and off outside. Well the spicket is on all summer long, but we close it during the winter so the pipes dont burst.

Well this winter afternoon i decided to get out the python and do some waterchanges. I turn on the water spicket valve behind a painting, and go about ym business. not before long im done all the water changes.

Then like next day it was the beginning of the ice/rainstorm. It was about a week straight of nothing but COLD, ICE, and RAIN.

About a few days into the storm i noticed a bunch of water near my back door in my basement. I went outside and there was a pond of ice and water that was backed up so it was about 6" high. I got a shovel out and cleared a path so that the water could drain down my backyard hill. Everythin was going to plan until later that night the water was in my basement, and my carpet was soaked!

I got towels sopped up as much water form the carpet as i could, then got out fans to try and dry the carpet more. Throw the towels in the dryer and start the process all over. Well now the water is higher and everytime i would step on my rug water would rise above my toes thru the rug. So now i got every towel.blanket and cloth i could find and im trying to dry this basement. I basicvally gave up, and was like the COLD and RAIN will stop soon.

The next day the Rain storm was gone, so i went onto my backporch...my grandmother happened to be out there with me, and she looked down to the basement door.. there was water coming out of the vinyl siding in a FAST steady drip.

She immediatly looks at me and asked if i turned off the water spicket valve behind the picture. My jaw dropped and i realized im an idiot. So not only did i ruin the carpet, burst the copper piping, but i ruined the drywall too. So i had to cut up all the carpe i could, but i had tanks on the carpet so i couldnt get to it all. My uncle came over and fixed the pipes and put on a new valve(thank god hes a plumber).

I then saw a good deal for a 120G tank, so i bought that, and snuck it into my house without telling the family. In this process of moving all the tanks i owned around to new spots in one night, i was able ot cut up all the soaked carpet, and remove it. Now i have just a cement floor, and the chinese style rugs down.

My grandmother never went into the basement once all weekend and never saw the new tank, so when i left for college for the week, i left a note on my door. " i hope you dont hate me for the new suprise, but atleast i got to cut up the carpet for you." and i left feeding instructions. She wasnt even mad. Grams Rules! but that was a rouuuugh week in the hobby.
