My fish tanks are on the second floor. Just look up on the first floor, and you see water stains everywhere. Mostly from when I get sidetracked from filling the tank, and the hose slips and sprays water all over the floor!
I'm glad all mine are on cement floors right now.
Sometimes my hose slips out and sprays water everywhere also. I've drowned my keyboard like this before and sprayed water all over the side of my tv also, and pretty much everything in between.
one time when I was younger I woke up at about 1 am to my dad walking around in my room sloushing around about 3 inches of water...apparently the house builder thought running a water pipe right along an outside wall was a good idea...well it froze and then split and when my dad decided to water the trees in the back yard at 10pm the next spring...my room almost became a monster tank.
Then it happened again the next year after they "claimed" they fixed it. This time as a joke my dad said go check your room. when I did I had a nice perfect waterfall coming from between the edge of the molding above my closet.
Ive only overflowed a tank once and only for a moment when I got caught up typing in a certain fish forum...
this is a thread for me. i was actually on MFK while my tank was filling in my apartment [directly to the left of my desk with the computer] and it just started overflowing. i didn't even notice the noise of the rushing water... it's not until my feet starting getting wet that I got a clue
I have 3 tanks (20g, 55g, and a 10g), a big desk, and a queen-sized bed in my tiny room, so there is absolutely no room... and I spill every 1-2 weeks
The past 2 weeks I have zoned out twice while filling 5g jugs with my siphon for water changes... and resulted in water going all over my floor or shooting onto my bed. I even noticed mold behind my desk, and had to bleach and get rid of it... a result of me not noticing until my feet are wet.
It is hard doing water changes in such a small area - I'm looking forward to a new place in 3 months! I'm going to buy a python to celebrate (it won't work on the sink near my room)
My worst flooding was caused by an anemone. It decided to break lose and managed to get stuck in one of three overflows. I removed the strainer plugged the overflow, and left the strainer/anemone mess in the tank. My theory was that the anemone would work itself free of the strainer. It did, and floated into overflow #2. With only one functioning overflow, it dumped 100+ gallons of saltwater onto the wood floor. The only bright side was that the basement was unfinished, so it didn't ruin anything in the end, just a ton of cleanup.
If it requires less than 6 bath towels, it isn't a flood.
Great thread! I can relate to almost every story here - I've overflowed on the refill, dumped full buckets on the carpet, dumped full buckets against the front of the glass and THEN on the carpet, had a 90g crack and leak out all over the basement, had a pump return connection leak and siphon out about 25 gallons of water, and overflowed more than one sink using a python...
Good thing I was living alone for most of those!! and now I'm in the basement where I can do the elast amount of damage
