OVERFLOWED TANK THREAD!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I overflowed the feeder goldfish tubs that were inside my work at my LFS when I was younger.

The worker came in in the morning to find the water still running and goldfish all over the floor....

About 500 feeder goldfish were all over the floor in puddles of chlorinated water... and they went places that we couldnt clean up and they just sat there and decomposed....

It smelled like dead fish in the fish room for a while

This is a minor one, when i first started fishkeeping... nothing since then *knocks on oak hood* but i got my nice new 20gal and had a 1 gallon bottle to siphon into. filled it, drained it, filled it, began to drain again to get particles and impurities out and you can guess where the other 19 gallons went... dang mythbuster [fav. show on discovery] now i got a 5 gal bucket but its still not best but itll do for my tanks -- ]v[onster tank comin up soon! :headbang2:headbang2

My top slightly covers the top of the glass... only had a slight overspill once when I emptied a bucket mix fert into the tank.. and it just all trickled out without me noticing... whoops :P

With my 35G, the only way I know how to do water changes is by filling up a 2 gallon bucket with a syphon, tipping into garden, and repeat until I've done 50%. Then I go to the sink and fill it up with tap water, dechlor, check chemical composition add chem's, (Plant fertilizer etc) then tip into tank.

i have to make water changes every week like this. on 5 tanks all bigger than 50gallons =P annoying isnt it?? i'd kill to be able to use the hose

yup.. overflowed my 45 once. all 3 of my 75s and my 125...

mom only knows about 2 of the times i did it.. after the second she said if i did it again she would bleach all my fish tanks... eek..

Ahh that sound that makes us all think, "Thats an odd noise, wonder what would be making a running water sound" I have lost track of over flows. It seems to be a semi-annual event for me.

Last time was Saturday; I had pulled a 1/2" PVC syphon apart with water still in it, blowing water on my floor as I stood there holding it and staring like an idiot. (see pic below, all my tanks drain and fill with ball valves and gravity)

I had a 300 gal leak on my brand new finished on site American White Oak hardwood floor. About 50 gallons total. It almost made me quit the hobby. I went so far as to take all my fish into my local fish store where I told him to sell them all. He never did because I think he knew that I would be back. Three months later I went and picked them up and I only lost one fish to the stress. It was a Brachyplatystoma Tigrinum but everything else was ok. He basically fish sat them for me for the whole time and never charged me anything for it. My floor still has a couple of very minor raised boards.

The last time I had spillage was because one of the cats decided to "help" with the hose. A face full of fish water appears to have changed her mind, because now she heads for the hills when the bucket comes out of the closet.

I've never had a serious one but this happens to me fairly often. Usually a gallon or so. Too many tanks too many distractions. I did have my RO unit on for about an hour overflowing a trash can. No idea how much water spilled there but my wife is getting less and less humorous when she hears me say oops while I'm working on the tanks.
