overflows not keeping up (plus other future questions)

What does the intake pipe in your tank look like?

I really dont see the point in drilling a hole just under the water surface as when the water level drops below the overflow it will break syphon anyway (duh???)

As long as your sump can hold that amount of water your good.

i only have 3-4" of leeway in a 55 gallon tank, so that's probably not going to be enough

i'm planning on getting the rest of the parts today, getting everything together and tested and hopefully running by tomorrow.

I got everything put together and tested and everything is working. I had problems w/ an elbow on the inlet for the overflow, so I'm just going with standpipe, but I need to extend it a little to raise the water level and to fit the screens I got. I tried both overflows on their own and they're working fine. The water level drops in the sump when I just use one, but I'm assuming that's normal because after leveling off, it keeps up. I'm assuming that's because of the water trapped in the other overflow? I did leave enough room in the sump so if the pump quits working, it can handle the water until the overflows stop (I tested that). I'm planning on final gluing and painting tomorrow and it should be completely up and running soon, def by the end of the weekend. I have to wait until I get paid to get more scrubbies. I'm going to order 200 and then gradually fill the rest up with other media.

well, the reason the overflows weren't keeping up in the first place was that I didn't get all the air out. makes me wonder if the original ones would have actually worked as I'm sure I didn't get all the air out of those now. oh, well, going to glue everything together here very soon

got everything ready to go, just waiting on the scrubbies. they should be here today or tomorrow. yay, it's about time this project is over with...

I got everything up and running today. Everything is going well except for a couple "annoyances".

1) on one of the overflows, the inlet part makes a lot of noise and it lost suction a couple of times. I have one of those sink drain strainers (similar to the picture below) in it and if i pull it out, it's not loud anymore but if i put it back in, it loses suction and I have to suck on the valve again. Obv., I need to do something different. What would you recommend?

2) the water coming out of the pump bounces on the front glass and is blowing the sand away. the oulet is 1" pipe and i had a spraybar off of it that is about a foot long. should I just make it longer and drill a different size hole (didn't glue that part in) or something different?

thanks
