Overheat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am from florida too, and not even in the coldest winter do you need a heater. If anything, you should invest in a water cooler. I have been keeping cichla and other fish for years, by the way.

Kidding about the cooler, unless you want sturgeon or something :)

I would still disagree about the rocks. Water has the second highest specific heat of any substance next to liquid ammonia. That's why areas near large bodies of water like the ocean or the great lakes have mild winters. The water takes a very long time to cool. Conversely, areas without this and only bedrock at a similar latitude can become incredibly cold. Western NY near Lake Erie remains relatively mild during the winter (aside from lake effect snow), whereas central NY can get much much colder without a large body of water.

Well today outside the temp was 98'F, so needless to say I perfer air conditioning rather than sweat my ass off. The temp. in my house stays at 68-70'F (and you thought 73 was crazy!!!) :screwy: And that folks is the reason I use a heater in my tanks.

As for the rock heating I agree with you.

Now that I turned my heater down on the lowest setting the water temp is stable again at 78'F. :)

What part of FL are you from? You know that keeping the A.C. at 78 saves you something around $1,000 a year in heating and cooling costs.

Panama City....I could give a sh.t about cost it's included in the rent. Besides 78 is way too hot for me I like it cold (i'm from Ohio).
