Overkill?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would keep the sump but it's your decision and there is NEVER OVERKILL in term of filtration.
Unless you are blowing your fish all over the tank!

The out flow can be adjusted :p
Also, the filter rate on the box always over rated lol I'm always divided by half so FX6 rated 400G should be good for tank 150~200 Gallons tank. I have 115G tank housing Moray Eels (Tesselata) and I'm using 2x FX6....Am I overkill? Not even close lol it's just enough to keep my tank clean with that Moray......

So you are using a dedicated biofilter on marine? That is new to me. I have 6x turnover on my tank, 5x is baseline for me and increased with stocking

Sumps aren't for everyone, and I agree with the OP. I don't prefer sumps on anything but saltwater (reef/fowler) , and not even always then either. I'm a canister guy for freshwater no doubt.

You'll be fine with that FX6 addition and glad you have it later once the stock gets larger. In addition, if there is too much flow, don't forget you can adjust the valve on the output side of the FX easily. More power to ya!

There certainly is diminishing return. I have a tank that turns the water over 18 times an hour. Adding to that won't hurt anything but it won't help much either

You missed understood, I meant clean in term of mechanical, I have 200 lbs live rocks for bio load, I'm not sure if you witness the bio load of a Moray yet...What can I say? It's like a nuclear bomb exploded in the tank everytime it poop and if I have a weak filtration my water would take hour to get it back to sparkle clear instead of few minutes! Also, marine system base turnover is like 23x times for freshwater is 8x times would be the standard.

Ah ok. I see :p

I stock fairly lightly so 6x works for me right now
