"Overstock" Successfully!

What a complete and utter load of rubbish.
Cram as many fish as you like in a tiny tank as long as your filtration is good and your fish will be happy?
Try to justify your own situation with that theory if you must but let's not try to lead others down this path.
It's always the guys that can't have big tanks that come out with these nonsense theories.Truth be told they just like big fish,they will have the big fish regardless and try to justify it with the good filtration story.

I really hate wannabe experts acting like they have never had an over crowded tank or kept a fish that was to big for his tank. I just wanted to share I made a mistake by getting over excited after setting up my 135g. But the mistake wasn't the fish I put in there. They were all 3" babies. Which I donated once I figured out what fish I did want to keep. Oh yeah at that point I had only kept fish for 6 months. What is funny, Is you said it's always the people that don't have big tanks. When did I say my tanks were to small? Compared to most I have huge aquariums. 180,135,75,55&50. You my friend should go back to the guppy home page. I bet you can go off on a bunch of kids putting there fish in a bowl.

So how is your 125 gallon with 53 large cichlids doing now. You said you donated 30 of them right, so that leaves 23? Let's see some pics im curious.
Edit: oh wait, went back and read, that was in a 55 gallon! So how did that end up.

Sbgbuddy, ragin cajin, mrrobxc, all have long lasting, fantastic community tanks from 300 to 500+ gal and I am fairly sure they just crammed a random mix of cichlids in with out lots of planing on stock and sexes and it worked perfectly straight out without them having to add and remove fish into spare tanks to reach a workable stock,

If you are raising something tough as nails, with a seriously hopped-up filtration system, and intend to eat the fish as soon as they reach full size, yeah, it can be done. If you are running UV to hide a nitrogen problem, I don't have much hope for your fish, overstocked or not.

My 150g is a bit crowded, some fish will go once they grow. But they are mostly thorichthys, which do well slightly crowded. They also don’t get bigger then 7”. They don’t need the space as a 13” fish would need. If I were to get anything large(13”+), I would most likely do a single fish or a pair.

Dude your so uninformed!

180 is tiny for the stocking your talking about.
It's also not very big for a lot of folks on this site.

Stanzzzz7 is far from being a novice. He actually is one of the forums experts.

I would get off your high horse dude.
I would also give your pets more consideration.
Hopefully you will keep on learning and realize the error of your ways.
I don't think you really need to be an expert to know what your attempting is unfair on the fish and a recipe for disaster.
I would stick with puppies dude.
