Just curious do you think I would be alright adding in another pike cichlid to my 135 gallon tank currently it is stocked with
1 Johanna
1 female red devil
1 jack Dempsey
1 Jaguar cichlid
1 ornate birchir
4x synodontis
4x Raphael catfish that I never see
I’d really like to get a red pike cichlid... if need be I can move the jaguar to a 75 by himself but will require some rearranging of some fish I also have an endli that’s gonna be going into the tank once it puts on some size currently all the cichlids besides the Johanna are around 7-9 inches the Johanna is about 12 inches there is minimal aggression. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated my main concern is aggression between the two pike cichlids

You have a 50% chance that the johanna will try to murder the red. Johanna's tend to be more aggressive. For the price of the red, I wouldn't take that chance.

Quite honestly, your tank is already overstocked before all of those fish become adults (less than 2 years)

thanks for the input I kinda figured most on here would consider it over stocked. Most of the fish are about a year and a half old... I really need to figure out the sex of the jag to be prepared if it’s a male and decides to go on a murdering spree but I’ve raised all these fish from young together and the only time there is aggression issues is when the red devil lays eggs and goes crazy for a few days

Male jag + female midas = breeding pair will make it hell for the other tank mates. Stick to one sex of fish.

If the female is laying eggs, there must be a male in the tank already. It will only get worse as the fish get larger and the space is smaller.

Raising from young doesn't mean there won't be fighting as the fish try to get up the hierarchy chain. I've had a jag at the bottom of a 10 cichlid chain, fight his way to the top as it got older. I was lucky it was relatively easy going, and didn't seriously hurt or kill any other fish, but then again it was in a 8 foot long tank. Before long, all 9 other fish cramped themselves into 4 feet of space, not a lot for that many fish, while the jag controlled the other 4 feet.

I do think your a bit overstocked already, but I guess if it's not broken don't fix it. Though I could foresee it becoming broken in the future. I definitely wouldn't add another pike though.

I had a big johanna in the past, she was pretty mellow but there weren't any fish that looked anything like her. She was old also, and too lazy to kill anything.

My 6" female johanna saw my 6" female atabapo red and it was hate at first sight in the 8 foot tank. The only thing that kept my atabapo red from being killed was that she stayed high in the corner of my male jag's territory. The jag kinda ignored her 95% of the time. When my jag wasn't looking, the johanna flew like a torpedo towards the atabapo for a quick strike.

If there are problems in the future I have a 75 that the problem fish will go into witch imo should be big enough for a jag or a red devil which ever becomes the problem fish and the red devil hasn’t layed eggs in a few months and I wasn’t aware that a red devil and a jag could mate but out of all the fish in the tank the red devil is def the aggressor and she has def chilled out since I’ve upgraded from the 75 and thinned our the stock

Doubt the problem will be your jag or RD regarding the pike, the most likely issue would be aggression from your existing pike. Once the fish are all full size, your maintenance will be insane too, to keep the water clean with that many big fish.

Yeah you’re probably right but I honestly don’t mind the maintenance that much I’m already doing a weekly %50 with a lot of overfiltration and do you think a 75 would be big enough for a pike cichlid

75 would probably be minimum to keep one. I currently have 2 12" pike cichlids in a 90gallon (same footprint), and it feels too small to me. I'll be finding them a new home soon.
