Overstocked already or can I add another pike cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah you’re probably right but I honestly don’t mind the maintenance that much I’m already doing a weekly %50 with a lot of overfiltration and do you think a 75 would be big enough for a pike cichlid

Filtration won't get rid of the nitrates. If you have 0ppm nitrates out of your tap, then you should be striving for less than 10ppm nitrates in your tank by doing enough water changes.

Yeah I’m aware of that not sure what the nitrates are rn but water change day for that tank is tom and I normally clean a canister once a month alternating each month and I’m pretty sure all the fish I have rn are females so hopefully my tank won’t get too crowded before I upgrade

I'd say you're overstocked as is. The jaguar alone could take up a 125 and an ornate bichir really needs atleast a 180

At the moment I don’t think that it’s to bad but the ornate will def out grow the tank eventually but he’s a little over a foot now and once there this size there growth rate really slows down but u do have plans to upgrade eventually would like to do a diy oidoor pond with a viewing panel my ideal dimensions would be 8 foot by 3 foot by at least 3 feet tall

Nice pike man, just a fyi, that's looks more like a sp. Venezuela or strigata to me.
I have kept both. Here's my johanna. Notice how it lacks the spot on tail fin, has a stripe instead.

an here are my Venezuelans. Looks much more like yours.

He gets a solid stripe when he’s fully colored up but yeah definitely looks like your Venezuelans and right back at you that johana is stunning I really wanna get my hands on another pike I’m prob just gonna go with a belly crawler to go in my 75 that’s prob already “overstocked” but hey I keep all my fish healthy and there’s very little aggression

Thanks, I really liked that johanna. she was about 14".
The Venezuelans get a full stripe too when stressed/showing off, the johanna's stripe stay permanently. I'd say im pretty sure your pike isn't a johanna.
Belly crawlers are cool little guys. One would be fine in a 75. It's what you put in with it that would determine if it's overstocked.
I'd start saving for the upgrade :)

Currently I have two 75s one houses my flowerhorn and the other has 2 parrots 1 convict 1 Senegal birchir and 1 sevrum so if added a belly crawler it would be fully stocked and I’m gonna have to hold of on an upgrade until I move into a bigger place but when I move the upgrade will be the first thing in the House and hopefully it’ll be a substantial upgrade but it’ll prob be whatever I can find used at a decent price unless I have the money for a custom build but I’d be fine with just another 125 to divide my fish up more

180 or 210 tanks can be found pretty easily for a decent price. I would go big, you will probably need it. If it's a Venezuelan pike they can get to 16", plus the jag, ornate bichir, endlicheri. All get huge.
I wouldn't get the second pike, your 75 is full of fish already and adding another aggressive predator could throw a wrench in the pecking order. You have plenty of fish, I'd take a step back, take a deep breath, and appreciate them for now. It's tempting to buy new fish but sometimes I find it more fulfilling to hold off and know your keeping what you already have, the best that you can.
Just my two cents, cheers
