overstocked tank stock?

Define what over stocked is to you?

Would keeping 5 fish all around 10" in a 100 gal tank over stocked?
Or 20 2" fish in a 20 gal is that overstocked?

perhaps the term "overstocked" is subjective.

when i say overstocked...i mean the fish police term of it.

it is true that noobs will unknowingly/ carelessly stock until they are satisfied but this isn't about that. this is for the people that defy the whole 1 inch per gallon rule with success.

my only beef with the OP's overstocked 125 is that it includes the possibility for multiple pairs, and too many specimens of the same species, which can lead to serious conspecific aggression. I have an overstocked 125 cichlid tank, but keep only individuals of different species

to me theres no such thing as overstocked. just under filtered

true to some point..

ill give u an example of over filtered and overstocked.

i have 2 -30 gallon feeder tanks. both filtered around 12x turnover rate.
i recently purchased 1lbs of feeder rosies. thats about 1500 1" fish. according to the supplier at 65deg u can keep 1lbs in a 30gal changing 90% water a day. so i figured if i put 1/2lbs (750fish) id be ok. WRONG!!!
even changing 90% water a day i couldnt keep the ammo under control. out of 1500 id have to say i lost 400.

in my opinion i think i could do 200 fish per tank. no more.

Thinking out of the box for a moment, in aquaponics they manage 1lb of fish per gallon by balancing the load with gravel beds for bacteria growth and plants to take up the nitrates. All while doing very few if any water changes. To be clear this would not be a pretty viewing tank that crowded, but it is possible if your goal is maximum density.
