I agree with what everyone is saying it could last longer than two months. I have had a lot of midas cichlids since they are my favorite. If it is a male when they hit the 6" mark all of the ones I have had wont tolerate any tank mates in a 55. If you could get a 125 then I could see them lasting till 10" together maybe longer but I just dont think in a 55 it will last long. But let us know how it goes and when they get bigger pics will be a must. best of luck.

Since you wont know when it will end untill somebody gets hurt, I advise you to rehome the fish while they are still small, and buy something that can comfortably live in a 55g, like a texas cichlid or GT.

good point, we should get a list going of cichlids that can comfortably live in a 55, GT? i had one untill he got about 11" i had to relocate him cause he was going ape s#it in the 55, hmm what about a chocolate? JD? i dont know much about texas cich's

if they are of different sexes, then this could go on for life... however if they are both males, i see the RD growing faster and being stronger and bullying the jag. then a separation is needed. with a divider or separate tanks. i honestly feel that there is NO-WAY to keep them in that 55 for life if they are both males without a divider. even then it is possible that they will grow larger the tank is wide...

Amphilophus Lyonsi
Jack dempsey (or EBJD- pretty much the same fish)

Hoplarchus Psittachus
Blood parrot
Nics
Istlanum
Grammodes
