I currently have a 30 gal, stocked with 2 giant danios, 3 varied tiger barbs, a clown pleco, 3-4 ghost shrimp, and 1 peppered cory...if i moved them from my 30 into my 20 gallon, would it be overstocked?? I am considering buying a bunch of clown loaches with the petsmart coupons, and schooling them together in my 30 gallon thats my reasoning behind the madness...thanks

Do you have other tanks? Or are a 20 and a 30 gallon all you have currently?

I've read that Cory Cats like to be in large groups.

At some point, a school of Clown Loaches will require a larger tank. Have you considered looking on CraigsList for something larger like a 55 gallon?

On a side note: I have 13 Clown Loaches (4+ yrs old) that I would consider my old 150 (72 inch X 18 inch) to be too small for. Just something to think about for the longer term.

ok...lol none of the above answered my question...
I asked if moving all of the mentioned fish, into a 20 gallon would make it overstocked...
I'm aware they like to be in larger schools, i have read and understand corys like to be in groups, and that clown loaches grow...But yes my 30 and 20 are my only options until july..
in which case i will be getting a 120 gallon...But for now......................

All of these fish in a 20 gallon, would it be considered too little space for them...?
Thanks

If you're not concerned with keeping the fish in proper groups to keep them happy and healthy, why are you concerned with overstocking?

A fish that lives in shoals or schools kept in too small a group will constantly be nervous and stessed. Some normally mellow species like clown loaches can even become aggressive.

Because i would like to know if it is too many fish for the tank to begin with, i am soon going to acquire a 100+ gallon tank in which they will all be properly schooled, BUT FOR NOW..............................I was wondering if it would be overstocked, is answering a question really that difficult?:irked:

x2, you nailed it in the head with this

okay so, i'm going to assume that i'm not going to get a direct answer for this....So lets say I go out tomorrow by 4 more tiger barbs, and 4 more danios....and 5 more peppered cory cats...then put all of them in my 20 gallon, Is it overstocked, and if it is...which ones would not be able to stay in the 20 and would need to remain in the 30....
