overstocked??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nobody can give you a straight answer on this because of your tank limitations. You say you'll be getting a bigger tank this summer but many people say that they will get a larger tank down the road and that never happens.

Ok so back to my previous question then, if i put all of my current fish into a 20 gallon tank, would it be considered overstocked...

Yes

It has already been mentioned to you that the fish you want to put in the 20g are best kept in schools, of which you don't have the room for. But the Giant Danio for example, is a very fast top level swimmer that can get rather large, not a suitable fish for a 20g tank.

If this was a short term setup - few days or weeks while your larger tank cycles then it wouldn't be an issue, but you're months away from a larger tank.

I would take back the two giant danios and get 7 more tiger barbs and 9 more corys personally. That would be the ideal numbers for a 20 gallon. Once you get a 120, I'd add a couple dozen more tiger barbs if you want that to be your main schooling fish. I kept a very similar stock in my 20 gallon. Monitor water parameters and do 50% water change weekly.

Is it a 20 gallon long or tall?

I say your fine, as long as its for a short duration and you monitor your parameters.

Thank you for the first straight answer, it is MUCH appreciated....

Also, it comes down to filtration, which I may have missed, but I don;t think you mentioned.

Success with fish keeping depends on it.

i have 3 air stones in the back, and 2 large sponge filters...with a tetra whisper on the back...but it was only meant for a 10 gal
