You could have 4 x FX5's and that would not make any difference. The limiting factor is the biol-load (i.e., nitrates produced per day and how high they climb before you perform a WC).

BTW - I have two ~ 7" fish in a 125G and I do weekly 50% WCs.
 
its not really even the bioload, it is also that some of the fish get bigger than the tank itself

No, filtration give the BB a place to live, the end product is nitrates, no matter how much you filter a tank, the nitrates are always going to be there. Water changes is the only thing that helps with nitrates. Don't ever let anyone tell you that overfiltering will make up for overstocking. Overstocked tanks are at such high risk of a disease wiping out all the inhabitants. And it all comes back to poor water quality because of too many fish. A few of those fish are going to need new homes soon. Sorry wish I had better news, but glad you asked, sounds like you really want to do whats best for your fish
 
thanks guys for the replies im planning on selling the aro, oscar, perruno and the shovelnose pretty soon i just wanted to find out if i should get rid of them now or later. i reallize that pond is probably too small for most these guys too so im selling them to a friend.
