If water quality is ok then within reason i don`t see a problem with keeping large fish in small tanks.

exactly. Although sometimes this happens by accident, when you get false info..

right now I am in a situation where I have two 18 inch yellow finned barbs in a 90 gallon tank. When I purchased them, the baensch atlas volume 2 states that they get 7 inches long, so I did my homework and thought I would be fine..

now, they are 7 inches high, never mind long..

they are healthy and happy, even though they need more space, and one day they will get it:

Nah, not really. I've seen those pictures before and those fish healthy as can be. I also read you plan to upgrade once before, You cant be blamed for mis-information and you keep the water crystal. Like I said, **** happens. Those fish are stunners by the way and what are the deminsions of that tank.

I am planning on a 150, but if I can raise extra funds when I move, I will get a 180.

the 180 is a much better tank (wider) but about 450 dollars more expensive...I will be on a tight budget to get a new 150 set up as it is

also, 12volt i'm tellin ya buy used, clean it up, you'll get a cheap tank that looks brand spankin new!

the reason that I want to buy brand new is that I don't wan't someone elses idea of a good set up.

I want black gravel, rena XP filters, Probably an Aquaclear filter, ebo jager heaters, coralife lighting etc etc.

When you buy a used setup, you get someone else's idea of good equipment and accessories, which may not necessarily match with mine..

Also, if I am buying a tank that big, I don't want a tank that is already a few years old..with someone elses scratches etc. etc.

I really do not want to invest in a second hand setup with a tank that big

even though I could save money, I would still probably end up spending more to upgrade to the equipment and accessories that I like..

When you buy a used setup, you get someone else's idea of good equipment and accessories, which may not necessarily match with mine..

People sometimes sell the aquarium itself... even with the full setup, the money that is saved can be used to purchase your dream accessories; you get extra stuff on hand too.

Hey 12v man I had 5 of those fish, I am glad I got rid of them at 8"s lol. They kept destroying my tank, eating plastic plants and tearing everything apart so I traded them in...

I had no idea they got the size of yours because I was informed they get around 8"s maximum as well... now imagine I had 5 that size...

And I am sure you could just the the big tank and stand used then get your heaters and such new...

The way I see overstocking is as long as your filter can handle the bioload and not have any readings for Ammonia or Nitrite and you keep the nitrates below 20ppm or so then your fish will be fine...

Not on this site but on another forum this rant was born. I always feel it but never say anything.


I am tired of defending myself on this other forum and barely post anymore and find myself posting here more.

Back to your topic, sorry you got flamed at the other site, wonder if those people there knows that plecos are really slow growers; the common my friend gave me about two years ago is still pretty much at 5", and my other common that i got over 5years ago is still at 4". All are healthy, and monster poopers with monster appetites. Do what you need to do to maintain your hobby, and forget those haters.

true, but that requires the patience to wait to find such a deal. LOL

once I am in a position to get the monster tank and I have the funds to burn, well, you can bet I will be at the LFS that weekend LOL
