ow big do black ghost grow?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 7 fish in a 6x2x2 foot species tank. Approx 600 Imperial Litres (dont know what that is in US Gallons). Lots of PVC and ceramic pipes and caves. They squabble but not too much and the smallest is about 35cm. Bare bottom tank for easier maintenance but I keep some ice cream containers full of 8mm gravel to collect eggs. They arent very demanding fish but great to watch.

Yes they lay eggs and do breed regularly. If you have a few BGK`s yours probably are breeding too. I rotate my gravel containers (exchange for fresh) every 2 weeks around any spawning activity since the adults are very predatory. Use smooth gravel to prevent egg damage. You could use black gravel to show eggs up better but I dont anymore. Put the old gravel into a clean bare tank for hatching. The breeding behaviour is fast and simple but there is some pre-courtship and the ovipositor is really forward ... like just behind the gills! Fry are tricky to raise but not anymore difficult than some other finicky fry species. Its only hit and miss but I suggest you give this method a try if you have some adults. BGK`s are an allowable import in Australia so I only breed them for fun. Its not worth the time and effort to breed and sell.

I am overseas atm so no pics avail. Theres not a lot to see anyway since the tank is just a jumble of pipes and pots and thick green algae over everything.
