Oxydoras niger VS Megalodoras irwini, pls help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
try plecos they are the best
but they are the worst poop machines
but they also need to be taken care off, i mean they have to be fed well, such as veggies(spinach, carrots, papaya....etc)
but i think you will be better off with a python to clean tank bottoms rather than a cat

and you will find many enraged MFKers as we love the cats we keep a lot to be called as bottom cleaners:grinno::grinno:

thank you guys!:headbang2
yup, i am keeping plecos, but i didnt see they eating those food scrap well. they mainly eat algeas in my tank. i am feeding arowanas with food stick instead of feeder fish these days, as it's getting cold and feeder fish are not easy to get. but food sticks do make some scraps and my pleco doesnt do much about them.
so i want a catfish to do that job, i am now trying synodontis eupterus to do so, but i dont think they can survive before long, because i'm keeping bichirs also.:(
i know niger and irwini can grow large and they are harmless to bichirs, so i'm considering keeping one of them. so help me out to choose one!!:grinno:

rays do some work about it in another tank, but i'm not keeping rays in this tank..:screwy:

O. niger may not be the best scavanger but they are real personality fish. They do eat spilt food on the bottom but quickly learn to feed off the top. They will eventually outgrow almost every standard aquarium. I had one outgrow a 135 after a few years to where it could not easily turn around. It is now over three feet long in a hotel pond, living with koi and pacu! That said, I just picked up two babies a few weeks ago, only 4" long and was glad to find them after several years.

For just helping to eat up pellets, I'd think pretty much anything would work. My Niger eats all over the tank, bottom middle and top. I don't know if he "cleans," he blows as much food out of his gills as he consumes. Fun fish though, he loves to play all day in the current in my river tank :)
