Anyone know anything about ozone generators in a FW tank

Can I just buy one and dump a air stone in my sump or do I need a reactor

Anyone who has one set up and running and advice would be great that

What I'm reading says they are great

I wasn't aware you could use them with a sump...

Not worth the risk IMO

A UV steriliser works just as well

Why can't you use it with a sump never herd of that before :D

Why is it not worth the risk a UV does not add extra ox to the tank does it
And a UV doesn't remove organics

Looks like no one knows about it so I will have to research then research some more

I'm just running out of things to add to my tank so was just looking for a little something extra :D

I am in the process of putting an ozone system in my 500g tank. The best way to administer it in freshwater is as below
  • Air drier
  • ozonizer
  • ozone reactor
  • activated carbon chamber
  • Back to aquarium
This would need to be regulated by and ORP meter controller.

administering ozone with an airstone into tank or sump could be detrtemental to your own health as well as the fish.

Hope this answers your question.

Use a UV sterilizer instead. Not worth risking anything if something goes wrong lol.

That fairly much were I'm up to I have all the bits just waiting on the interface for my aquatronica that should make it super save as you have the timer on the ozone gen and the aquatronica will turn it off if the levels get to high

I'm sure someone said use a UV or was that the same person repeating themselves I have been using UV for over 25 years and wouldn't run a tank without one so no need to keep saying use a UV as I know the benefits of a UV and now know the benefits of ozone

I use ozone on my freshwater ray system you must have a reactor to mix the ozone and ensure it does not get back into your system, and of course you can use a sump with ozone you pump from sump thru the ozone system and right back into the sump. I also use UV as well and I was told you should add the UV after the ozone as it will remove any access ozone from getting back in your system.
