I have three Mono's that have been together since they were around 2 inches, and now there about 5 to 6 inches, it seems that two have paired off, and there starting to chase off the so called third wheel, but they don't do all the time, just once in while, is this going to become a bigger problem as they get larger in size, do to the fact i may have a future breeding pair. Thanks in advance.

Dithers......i like to use gold fish, dats, fronts, servums, convicts......etc.

I agree. Add some sort of hearty punching bag fish to spread the violence out a little. Ive used Firemouths with quite a bit of success. Get one big enough that they cant eat it but small enough they can bully it. The firemouth will stand its ground and are pretty good at defending themselves with bold posturing, and they are cheap. Should scratch that aggro itch for your cichla!

Heres my little dude, I call him Everlast.

nothin like a decoy!

IMO they are still a bit small to be establishing themselves as a breeding pair. More likely they are establishing their pecking order. It will probably subside after they have decided who is the boss. If not dithers are a possible answer. Or you can add some cover or structure giving the oddball out a place to hide and/or breaking up the line of site from the other 2. Dithers will have to be fast enough and large enough initially as well as grow fast enough not to become menu items for you monos. Silver Dollars, Tin Foil Barbs are not bad ideas.

I had 3 pbass i got all together.

They were fine, then had issues with 1 being picked on as you said. i let them have at it, and after a few days never noticed an issue again.

i feel like he said above. just establishing who is the boss

Don't worry about it until you see some serious physical damage or you start noticing the guys are stressing out. normal cichla behavior

its possible though, ive seen farmies pair up at 8" and lay eggs as well.

I have a couple of tin foils in with mine, they mix in with the bass. Those things are pretty quick!
