As the title states, I've noticed that my little hybrid seems to be spending much of his time sitting on the bottom with my bichir. He still comes up at feeding time and is always the first to take a piece of food, he just seems to have less energy that when he was smaller.

I was wondering if this behavior is normal, or is there something wrong with my tank?

I did recently remove a sick pangasius catfish, and I'm hoping that the bass didn't catch the same thing.

Thanks for any input,
John

My eight inch azul spends a lot of time resting on the bottom too.

My Orino that got beat up by a red wolf fish and is recovering in the 30 gallon does this.. sits just outside the cave and if anyone comes near darts inside with the striped raphael. Is he showing any other signs of stress? Flashing, stress colors, etc

I will admit to a large amount of ignorance regarding p bass. How would I identify stress colors on a hybrid? Also is flashing that thing he does where he seems to flare out his gills? Because I do witness that occasionally.

Its not the gill thing, that's usually referred to as flaring but flashing is when it goes on its sides and scratches itself against the substrate. My Os had ick and did it a lot

Oh and stress colors are when its back and top of its head turn dark

is there any other fish apart from birchir? Remember bass are better in numbers, depressed no friends? no activity in tank?

Well he's definitely got tank mates. Him and the scomb have a love/hate relationship where the bass flares and the scomb charges, but in the end they usually swim next to each other. The little brown knife and the p bass will get into it from time to time as well, but he's hardly a threat. Other than that there's the Lima shovel nose cat (who has the least personality of any fish I've ever owned) and a fire eel, who spends almost 100% of his time buried in the sand under my driftwood with only his nose poking out. I actually have no idea how big that eel is right now.

Is my little hybrid missing the company of other conspecifics?
