it seems like all of the big ones i've seen look like they have a bad back. is that just how they are built. i just bought a breeding pair and they look the same.

I think thats how they are built ,its really not that bad.If you want to see some really bad back fish that have been inbred to death than take a look at some jack dempsey's there are some real bad looking ones.

i think it has alot to do with water quality and diet.

im not saying that they have a bad back. i just wanted to know if thats how they are supposed to look? the guy i bought them from had them stuck in a 55g with fry!! i also got 2 juviniles(4") in that deal. So are mine just old? the male is 13" and the female is around 9". i might just get rid of the pair and grow the juvis in my 125g.

yeah man thats the shape the are supposed to be. personally i prefer to grow out my fish so if i were you i'd keep the juvies you purchased.

I dont own a jag but doesnt seem like they have any deformities/stunting or "bad back" like you said. If they are healthy and swimming fine, theres nothing wrong then.
