Having some trouble finding solid info on this species. It is also not listed in the profile sticky. Just wondering if someone could give me info on them as far as size and temperament. Also please chime in your experiences with them and other things like availability and popularity

They are like most other rays -need space, good food, and good water. They do grow big.

Thank you, but I am seeking a little more background info on them. Also wondering why it is not in a sticky

On another note, your avatar is amazing !

We just group them together with all the other hard to identify brown rays as they usually all grow to huge sizes anyway and require pretty much the same needs as any other ray.

Lol really? About all I could find on this species is that they are comparable in size to hystrix, scobina and reticulatus. Anyone have any input?

Are you asking about Potamotrygon Orbignyi ?

Just google it, lots of info...

I have four of them, single male (about 11" disc) and three females (1 10" disc and 2 8") all are from Columbia. I have had the two largest ones for almost a year and the two smaller since November, they have been tough to get off of night crawlers, but, now that they have, raw shrimp and other seafood is eaten with gusto, still no on the pellets LOL. I find them to be quite laid back, though that may change as the male matures, his claspers haven't started to grow at this point. I have read that these are supposed to be one of the smaller rays, but, who knows since there really isn't much info out there on them. I would love to find out how big they will really get, hopefully not too large!

Hope that helps, if there is anything specific you are wondering, just let me know.

Thanks a lot. That's the kind of info I'm looking for. I happened onto a pair of them by accident by a seller who had them labeled as p.hystrix. Do you happen know a said mature size for these guys? I will pm you as well on some other questions

I saw a female a couple of years ago that was at least 20" diameter. I had an orbignyi male pup for awhile but sold him. He is currently 24" or more. So no, they are not a small ray.
