We call them red scats here in Australia. Scatophagus argus.

NICEEEE!! LOVE the snook!! You only have a male? Can't wait till mine start getting their adult coloration!! :D

Yeah unfortunately only have the one male at the moment. It's ok as his focus is on eating and getting a good size! rather then chasing girls which he has time to do once he's a monster.

I have never been a big fan of the reds either.

awesome scat, its scatohpagus rubifrons, the ruby scat...actually probably scat argus, the green scat, huge one at that, raised in pure freshwater?

Yep, Scatophagus argus. Got it about 6 months ago. Has been kept in full FW that whole time and has done VERY well put on plenty of size and weight. It is also a great feeder, eats anything green that goes into the tank.

I have also noticed that this fish will wait, even follow another fish until it defecates then eat all the waste! keeps the tank pretty clean.

great snook all way loved the green snook

Couple more of the scat.

that's why they call them scato phagus -literally poop eating fish.

and that's one hot looking scat.

Yep I get the name. Was just very interesting to see the behaviour first hand. This is the only one I have seen actively search and wait for scat!

Thanks for the kind words. The yellow has come out alot more since I have owned it. Although it has been getting spoilt with plenty of greens and pellets. Between the scat and the GG they eat a couple lettuces a week as well as plenty of broccoli, zuccini and peas.

that is a awesome scat....
