hey guys just a post wondering if i can get some help, here is exactly what happened. I have 4 p14s all were eating like crazy then one day a few weeks ago i changed out my carbon filters and forgot to turn the drips back on ph crashed from 7.8 to 6. All the rays stopped eating so after i checked my ph i turned my drips up double what i usually do to get the ph back up. after about 4 days ph went back to 7.6 and all 4 started eating about half what they use to. i left town for 5 days and had a friend feed the rays came back only 2 were eating and 2 werent. left it for 3-4 days still no eating i figured maybe after the ph crash the aros were bugging them and possibly stressing them out. i have all 4 now in there own 180 gallon same 2 eating other 2 wont even take ghost shrimp or blackworms. tank is completely covered right now. any suggestions or should i just wait it out??

if the ph crash was that drastic it would have effected the aros.rays are tougher man.another member on here has issues with a p14 that came from the same source, same batch as yours.he thinks they came in with gill flukes.glen our water has been very bad here lately i tested my tap water a few days back and it was around 6.8 out of the tap.i tested one of my tanks thats not hooked up to the drip and it was still over 8.2??? than a few days later its stabilized at 7.6 -7.8ish.my theory is mother nature.we have had alot of snow this winter and its all up in the mountians running into the bow river our water supply.

possibly your ph didnt crash maybe its just our water.me and others have had issues too.wait it out just dont mess with them much and they will be fine.i truely dont beleive that your rays have flukes cause when my buddie called me all my rays were acting strange,i even noticed breathing out of one lung and loss of appitite.use your ro and mix the water see if that helps.i think they add alot of fluoride and or even ammonia to our water plus runoff causes ph drops

they can go almost forever without eating, medicating can just self inflict other issues
probably something simple like your aros stressed them than our water went haywire than you moved them?? lots going on for the new little guys.get them black worms daily until they eat other stuff

I dont think PH is your problem. Rays can be happy and breeding in water as low as PH 5.5.

Your pre drip filtration may not be removing the chlorine well. I'll look into that.

he is alot smarter than this, and chlorine would not discriminate on 2 fish out of his collection

No but different fish react differently to it. A certain level can kill some fish while others are still happily eating. I've had a tank poisoned before where the rays slowly died but the other fish were happy.

Even experts can be confounded if the equipment they bought is a dud.

Usually its the new thing that was last changed that causes the problem. It's important not to do too many changes at once so you can isolate the problem.

Yes but their are a few others I'n our city that all around the same time started acting up.that's why i think it's our water.fluoride maybe.

rays can stay in ph low or high as long as its constant, a dramatic change they arent happy like posted above all 4 stopped eating until the ph bounced back up then all 4 ate then 2 stopped eating
