The next tank project I'm planning is a high tech planted tank. The tank is 4 foot (120cm) length x 50cm height x 40 width, meaning its capacity would be about 180L, close to 50 gallons. I plan on using a specialised plant substrate (not quite sure which yet) and a high powered T5 light fitting, and a co2 setup, to grow a foreground carpet of mainly Lilaeopsis microswords, and smaller crypts moving back into the focal point of branching driftwood with moss, surrounded by larger crypts and amazon swords which will give way to a background curtain of vallisneria. It's all very exciting

For stocking, I'm thinking a school of cories (as an aside, what are your opinions on how cories would cope with the higher temperatures of an angel tank?), maybe peppered for bottom dwellers, and a group of around 6 wildtype angelfish. My thinking in the way of schooling fish was some kind of tetra - silvertip, black neon, etc... but then the thought of rainbows occurred to me - I've loved Australian Rainbows since I first discovered them, particularly Pacific Blue Eyes and Spotted Blueyes, but I've never actually kept them. I'd love to be able to keep a school of around 20 Pacific Blue Eyes with my angels.

SO in short my question would be surrounding stocking advice. Does anyone have any experience of keeping Pacific Blue eyes with Angelfish? I'd be buying all the fish as juveniles, and Pacific Blue eyes apparently grow to about 7cm, do you think this would be big enough to keep them safe from the Angels as time goes on? A possible alternative I was considering would be a school of about a dozen Glass Catfish

Oh and also, in my experience Pearl Gouramis are lovely and peaceful, and I've kept them with angels before (short term). What are your opinions on how 1 or 2 of these would go with a group of Angels in my tank?

Cheers

Cory sterbai is usually recommended as a good option for community tanks with high temps(like discus tanks). Angels usually are kept a little cooler, so you might have more options.

How high of a temp are you planning? For angels, 80-82 is fine & most cories can handle that.

For a tank that size, I would go with 5 angels at most. They can be very territorial especially wild caught fish. 5 in a 60gallon didn't work for me.

I think rainbows can handle 80, but I've never kept them. They should be fine in regards to size.

I'd stay away from the gourami - they can be aggressive & you already have a good amout of stock w/ the angels, rainbows and cories. Pearl Gouramis are my favorite type as well.

Thanks, I'll look into sterbais, any other suggestions for higher temp cories? I was planning on around 80.
In my experience, most cories (eg bronze) don't do so well above about 75

The rainbows are supposed to be pretty adaptable to temperature, I'm glad that sizewise they should be good
