I put a pacu in my tank last night. In the morning my shovelnose had a chunk missing from his nose. He had a bent nose when I got him. I think it's safe to saw it was the pacu. I only plan on having the pacu until I get to my parents house in a week or two. I don't want him messing with my fish. Is the nose a freak accident and should I hold on to it? Or should he get the eviction notice and go to the pet shop?

It's a 125

2 Jack Dempseys

1 Lima Shovelnose

1 Flowerhorn

1 4 lined catfish

The pacu is about 16 in

That Pacu is huge compared to the shovelnose. While not strict piscivores Pacus like most fish are opportunistic and it's dangerous keeping fish of such different sizes together. In my opinion the Pacu will try to predate again on his smaller tankmates and should be moved as soon as possible.

Where ever the Pacu is supposed to go when you get to your parents house, I'd put a rush on it and see about rehoming him sooner rather then later as the shovelnose may not be the only victim in the near future.

Thanks. My parents live 4 hours away. I won't be able to make it until Sunday. The guy I got it from had it in A 90 with smaller plecos, severems and an oscar. He will most likely get traded in.

Koltsixx I see you are in the Bronx. Want a free pacu? I will deliver.

My old pacu chomped the whiskers off of a RTC twice its size. They get to be massive beasts and eat almost anything. Mine would eat whole pecans, walnuts, zucchini, squash, worms, pellets, and prey on anything with movement.

after it hit 18" it faced the same fate as nearly all pacu. Taken to a LFS.

He is Albino. I just saw him actively engaging my shovelnoses nose. I would of loved and put him in my dad's pond put he is getting removed now.

Is your dads pond heated or something? Maybe take it to the LFS and explain your situation and ask if they can hold onto it for you until you go to your dads house. You could offer money.
