This label is not wrong. Red belly pacu do grow to 10". It just fails to mention that they then grow to 24", 36". That poor pacu didn't even make to 10" before he was dumped.
The baby oscars are huge compared to the baby pacu in this tank. I'm certain that my fish came out of this tank.
It is easy enough to be Monday morning quarterbacks and say that whoever owned it should have researched it first. Why? If the fish grows to 10", a 55 gallon tank would be adequate. I just did a quick search on keeping pacus. Here's an expert's advice--they recommend a 250 gallon tank.

The above were the first five sites I clicked on in my research on pacu. From my internet research today, a 200 - 250 gallon tank will work for pacu. Ten years ago when we picked up our fish at a moving away yard sale, I joined a pacu forum to learn more about pacu. The members were really gung ho about their pacu, I suspect that the owner of the forum lost his fish first. Two moderators with pacu in 75 gallon tanks both had their pacu die suddenly at two years old. That was the end of the forum. There was never any discussion on pristine water parameters. I went into our WalMart and spoke with the manager in charge of the fish department. I showed him this picture.
They stopped selling pacu at our WalMart. Now if I see pacu being sold in other stores, I show them pictures of my pacu. I wish this special fish was available only by special order. It is hard to believe that a fish that costs $6.50 will cost $$$$$$$$ to house it for its entire life. The information on pacu is WRONG. There is no way to research pacu and know potential size, life span, housing requirements, because the experts are wrong about this fish. Most pacu are doomed to short lives in horrific conditions. sad.
