Thats a Pacu, an easy way to tell pacu ftom piranha a piranha has an extended lower jaw a paco does not. Paco gets much larger than a piranha.

pacu and why feeder fish? wild pacu RARELY eat insects let alone fish, they're mainly vegetarian. My first fish was a wild caught pacu my mom brought from a trip many years ago and it ended up dieing cause I didn't know it was vegetarian, lasted about 8 months on just a few aquarium plants, never touched pellet live frozen or flake. I feel so bad but I learned my lesson. Can't wait to have a tank capable of keeping a pacu comfortable. goodluck with yours =] very fun fish

Yes Pacu 100% (24th time ;) lol) Many Pacu when young are light in colour and some might even have a red belly, this "redness" slowly fades away with time and when the fish gets bigger.

@Drawntobeaches: Really not going to tune you or anything, we all make mistakes. . .but you never knew a Pacu was a vegetarian? Really? A lil bit of research would of shown you this right away. But so we learn. In your defence. . .Pacu are indigenous to SA (Amazon) but have been introduced to Papa New Guinea for an extra food source. . .here the Pacu doesnt have many nuts and fruit to eat, therefore it has actually changed its diet and now eats meat as well. It can be caught quite easily on pork. The Pacu here have this red-belly effect when young. They have become a switching predator (A predator that is able to switch its food source if one food source becomes depleted).
