So I have a 8x3x3 that I'm switching and changing around. My buddy has a 9 inch pacu that he can't keep anymore so I'm going to take him, I wanted to kidnap build it around him. Any suggestions what other SA cichlids I can put with him. Ide love to keep flowerhorns and GT and some other cichlids but I'm not sure with temperament they would all be able to go together. Any ideas ide love to hear it!

im new to dont take my word for much but according to some research pacu can get over 3 feet long which might be a bit to large for your current aquarium. as for a tankmate for it i think a GT would be nice but again those also get huge so maybe a smaller chiclid like a speckled peacock bass.

Yeah I'm well aware of pacu size, I have a 2000 gallon pond which he will go in once he gets bigger which is why all my friends ditch their fish to me lol I've just never really kept one before but I know they get meaty quickly!

In that size would two GT work?.because that will be the GT main tank when the pacu makes his move too the pond. It's going to look really empty looking 🤣.. that's what I was trying to figure out what to stock with so when the pacu moves everyone can still live together Im just not sure what else can go along with them

Pbass get a lot larger than gt.

With pacu, they aren’t quite as aggressive as their piranha cousins, but their size means that anything smaller is potentially on the menu.
I would look at their natural tankmates. Oscars (or other large SA cichlids), leporinus, silver dollars, larger armored cats all come to mind.
I’ve seen them with rays and piranha at aquariums and everything was healthy, but those would be a bit of a risk to me.
Gt would probably work due to size and temperament, but thrive at very different water params as pacu. Flowerhorns are just too aggressive, yet also weak due to poor genetics - it’s generally advised to keep a fh as a solo fish in any tank.
