am geting 220 gal for my single pacu. will it be big enugh. and kind of filtration would be best.3 ac 110,and xp3?i have no experance with big tanks any info about filtration would be great

That is still a bit small for a pacu, but if that is the best you can do, then fine, at least you are trying unlike most people. But if you can get somthing bigger that would be even better, like a 300.

The more filtration the better, but I think what you suggest should be fine.

thanks for the reply.yea the bigest i can find is 220. but im still looking

The pacu will eventually out grow the 220 but thats a good place to start. IMHO pacus are best left to public aquariums though. They are tank busters for sure. Very powerful swimmers and cna be quite skittish a dangerous combination. Just my .02.

Pacu are true monsters of the fishkeeping hobby. I suggest 600g or larger as a goal to shoot for. Build a large wet/dry (or have built) for the filtration. I love these fish!

He said it would only be for one pacu. If he could find a 300gl tank with the demesions of 96x30x24 that would be a good tank for a pacu. Much better than what most people can provide.

Also not all people are able to build huge tanks or ponds for their fish.

that will be fine for your single pacu for now, dont let anyone worry you

Actually 600g is a bit small in my opinion for 1 pacu but I understand large tanks are a huge investment. Keep in mind that even the smaller redbelly pacu can reach 35".

Do you plan to keep any other fish in there? With the proper filtration-- a bit more than you described-- I think you can keep some other smaller fish for variety. ;)

Pacus are not typically territorial, so he shouldn't mind a few smaller tankmates as long as the water is good quality. In fact, i reccomend a few other fish in the tank to make him less likely to have a pacu "panic attack," which can result in injury to the fish's nose (as a result of smashing into the side of the tank at high speed :( ) or a cracked tank!

I love Pacus! Good luck:thumbsup:

Pacu are TRUE monsters. You NEED a huge tank to house even one for life. Insane fish. They are really cool, though. What kind are you planning on getting? As stated you might need some dither fish. I have 2 red belly pacu myself. Looking for a huge tank. Might have to build a CUSTOM monster tank for them. It's kind of cool to have people look at your fish tank and realize that one of your fish is bigger than their first born. lol

Happy Monster keeping!!!
