20 should be fine 4 the pacu .u dont need 300 gal tank.mines lived i a 30 gal for most of his life and hes fine .iv just recently upgraded to a 70 gal.he seemed guite happy in there

Ive decided to scrap the 220 gal idea.I'm going to build a large tank with a foot print of- 108-48-48-just under 1100 gal.70 seems real small for a pacu.how big is your pacu?

Why is such a large tank required to house a pacu? I've been told that a red belly pacu would only reach about 2'. Wouldn't a 300 gallon be adaquate (with propper filtration) to hold two or three?

just want to put in my two cents, people forget get that fish will grow to the size of their enviroment even in the wild, for example a large species of fish thats grows up in a small area will only grow so much and never reach its full size, i have personally seen this in the wild (small mouth bass in a stream fed mud hole). a pacu in a 220 will only grow to 2ft and never larger

yeah but it may well get stunted with a huge head and no body.
You want to buy tanks like my mum bought me clothes as a kid - they seem massive to begin with but you soon grow into them!

my thinking is if i were a 2ft fish i would want something a little wider to turnaround.and something a little longer to stretch my fins.another reason I'm thinking something large is i want to be able to put some tank mates in with her.and i was also told that pacus out grow there tanks and don't stop growing at 2ft.plus I've got some good plans for a tank.and some help too.just need to supply the beer.
