I have one large 12 inch black pacu, and two smaller 4-5 inch RB pacus in a seperate tank. When I try to introduce them the black changes them like crazy splashing water and jumping out of the water. He will not chase any other fish at all though, even smaller fish, just the pacus. Anyone know why this is happening? Could he possibly just wish to be alone, or is he gaurding his territory from other pacus as he is a mature fish? I want to try this again, but why is it happening?

as in all species of animals "DOMINATION", i have 2 pacus, the larger one always chase the little one around.

yeah, im working on that pond :P

How in the hell will i keep humiditiy down in an enclosed room, thats the problem im on right nowl...

Three pacu that size in a 55? Wow.

Black are aggressive by nature.

However, we need to clearify tossing out common names. Red Belly Pacu (Piaractus brachypomus)are often called black as adults. However, those are different from Black finned pacu (Colossoma macropomum). Black finned pacu are much larger in size the the red bellys. Three or four times bigger as adults. I've got a trio of marco and six brachs that will be going in together soon. I made sure the brachs were larger since the macro will tend to chase. All are well over 15" at this point.

Im not sure what mine is and I toss around both names to be honest. The pacus are not all 12" and the 55 is a holding tank until the pond is constructed, the other two smaller pacus are in a seperate aquarium. Yes, the pond will be in my bedroom which is quite large.

Zoodiver; you seem to know quite alot about pacus, this is my new 12 incher, do you think hes a red belly or black? People are saying black as much as they are saying red and I would just like to know. rumblesushi: many experts have told me he is a black, and I cant go by your one comment, I need to hear from other people as well. KNH: he is chasing them and they were trying to get out of the tank, i dont think this is normal.
