Pacu Toleration

You know, with all the talk, I was thinking it was going to be an easy call between red or black. But now that I see the pic, I'd say you have a mix. Not a pure black, that's for sure. But, it does exhibit some of the charactoristics of both. We'll have to see as it grows.

Wow that was an unexpected answer! I didnt know that was possible. Ill keep posting pics as he grows :)

FAO reports say that the two (brachs and macros) were bred together for farming purposes. Apparently, the hybrid grow relatively quick and are fertile. So you get faster growing food and can keep breeding them. From that angle, it seems like a smart thing to do. Sadly, they have been introduced due to escapes (farm flooding) and aquarium releases.

The pacu "name game" can be very confusing. I've found at least 12 different latin names for pacu since Cuvier's first in 1818.

So you do think this is a mix between the two and he was bred (the species) for food correct? Are you saying he will probally grow faster than average pacus?

Originally, they were bred that way for food purposes....but so many have popped up now that they are just passed off as regular pacu.

Information says the hybrid between macro and brachs are fast growing.
