PACU

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i gave to a guy with a 150 and i think he has another pacu in it. i just dont know oh well i will be going out tomorro and getting 4 oscars to make it 6 all together. 2 tiger and 2 red and may be 2 white ones.

6 oscars is also a bit of an over kill for you 110 also. Id stick with 4 tops in there, unless of course your goal was to grow them out and obtain a pair or upgrade later.

how long can i keep them in the tank 72"L x 20"W x 18"H
till thay are too big??

The problem with oscars is that they are very messy fish and get large. If you don't have one, get a freshwater master test kit and routinely test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. In a cycled tank, the ammonia and nitrite readings are 0. The nitrates should be kept below 20 ppm. Water changes are the easiest way to keep the nitrates low. When you have to do massive frequent water changes to keep the nitrates low, you will know it's time to either get a larger tank, or remove some oscars. 55 gallons is the minimum recommended tank size for ONE oscar. High nitrates can lead to stunting, HITH, premature death of your oscars. How much and how frequently you change the water will depend on the nitrate readings

There is much mislead info out there on Pacu's unfortunately....
You can look up some more info out there on OPEFE.com....Just search out the Pacu topics.....Enjoy the read...
I absolutly agree, with all the irresponsible idiots putting tropical fish into lakes , it is not even a joke , anyways i have kept a total of 6 pacus for over 20 years now. my two biggest are in a 400 gallon tank with 2 arowanas, a giant gourami, red devil, 2 shovel nose tigers , 2 red tailed cats ( one 25 inch one 10 inch) and 3 20" paroon sharks . the pacus are mostly peacefull during the day but require a lot of room and a lot of food . they enjoy carrots and peas , frozen krill , goldfish, lettuce , ect.. they do enjoy nipping at fish with longer fins ( veil tail oscars seem to be a favorite) . in short. mass amounts of waterchanges, food, space and they will be a companion for life ! never forget they have the potential to reach 60 lbs !
