my 12-13 inch pacu is starting to get a lil nipy with his tank mates ,which are... ,an 8-9inch oscar and a 8-9inch red head cichlid

just wondering if the pacu had another pacu to hang out with would he stop picking on the other fish?

arent pacus usually prety timid fish?

(and yes i kno the potential size of these fish)

2 pacus may solve your problem but create others. If 2 are kept together there often is a dominate one that will chase/harass the other. I've kept my current pacu with many fish but I've always had to remove the oscars because they would take shots at the much larger pacu. There is no harm in trying as long as you make an arrangement with your LFS to return the new pacu if things don't work out. Good luck.

pacus get more solitary as they mature.every thing Ive read is that they do well within a shoal. but its impossible to house many pacu. maybe better to keep just the pacu alone.

Agreed. 100%

My pacu hassles a giant gourami all day long, the good thing is that every once in a while the gourami goes after him. I seem to have no problems with large cats with pacu, pseudodoras, L. Pictus, or redtail

YEs 2 would sort it, but then you have an even bigger problem of hw to house two big pacus, just sell the one you have and ALL your problems are over with it. it will be easier to sell at this size then at 2ft!

I have two giant pacu together and they are great.. one does dominate the other when it comes to food though, so i have to distract the one while i feed the other..or the dominate one will push the other out of the way.. but they put on a show together when they swim and nuzzle one another with affection.. they did grow up together so i am sure they would miss each other if they were apart.. i have had them since they were a quarter size and now they are about 6 years old and one is just under 2 feet long.. but it isn't just the length it is also the width on these guys..almost 4 inches thick..
