does anyone have a lot of experience keeping paddlefish in an aquarium?? these are very interesting fish to me, if you could just get one to stay small enough to be able to house and care for properly. Of course the source for such a fish would be my next big concern, I live in Indiana and im not sure of the regulations for even keeping one here. Could someone contact me if you have that information?? you will have to email probably, i dont come here a lot, but i guess i should :)

There is no standard for small paddle fish. While it appears there is the occasional stunted animal, 1 in thousands the cause of this is not known(so may not even be the same cause when it happens). The fish might suffer a sever deformity or other short coming that results in its lack of size. There is no documented extended husbandry of any such "small" paddle fish. If you could get them "small" they may live 1 week or a matter of months. There is an extensive thread on paddlefish husbandry under way already if you look at my post history you'll see a paddle fish thread I've already commented on.

WoW!!! thats service :) i will certainly read your other posts, all of them lol, im thinkin now that a dwarf paddle fish is off the menu, lol, but it would be nice.

we can all dream, buy a farm and setup some large ponds and breed for slow growth and smaller adult size and you could have a designer fish on your hands :P I'd rather have a 8 inch paddle fish than a flowerhorn lol

Me also, by far...but im not a fan of hybrids of any kind that are not produced by mother nature herself, and im not too proud even of those. A local state owned lake stocked green sunfish, and pumpkin seeds, a few years back and now that lake is mostly hybrid, the only upside.. they also stocked gambusia, which are easily dip netted all around the banks, by the hundreds, which go in my cooler for a ride home to my starving and now happy bowfin and gar. My Tiger shovel nose also can finish off about 20 at a meal :)

This is most likely illegal in most states as the paddle fish population is declining. Why would you want to keep a planktivore in a tank?

There was a guy on here a few years ago Moontanman was his name I think, he claimed to have a strain of stunted paddle fish from a hatchery. Might want to look for that thread too.
