hi there my big male electric blue has always been the boss hogg of my cichlid community tank ,then yesterday i got a big male beut peacock and str8 away they locked lips it was really scarey!!now mr blue has retreated to the back of the tank and the peacock has taken over ,i thought that they were peacfull fish???:screwy:

My new 12" peacock bass sometimes loves to boss around the other two smaller 10" pbass at night when the lights go out, no problem with the lights on. I have even gotten wet from the tank water splashing on my head (the top of the tank is 6' 6" above the floor and has lids). I think pbass can be quite aggressive at times.

i am almost positive that this belongs in the cichlid discussion forums. the lounge is for 'anything but fish' chat. and i believe that the OP meant a peacock as in african cichlid rather than a peacockbass.

Most african cichlids are aggressive. if you were told that peacocks are peaceful, you were lied to. if the peacock is bigger, then it is completely normal for it to have taken over the tank.

Oh.:(

No offense taken!;)

As far as african go, peacocks are pretty mellow. But ebjds' are just push overs. I prefer not to mix CA/SA and african cichlids. Because of the ph, temp, and diet differences.

Lol again I think that he is referring to an electric blue cichlid, which is also an african cichlid.

Peacocks and S. Fryeri's which I assume you are talking about are normally compatable.

They do however scuffle at times.

They are compatibale, when you raise them together, Cichlids especially male are territorial. When you put a new kid on the block they have problems. I bet in a couple of days they will be ok. Change the tank around, Put more rocks or plants in the tank. Feed them really well and you shouldn't have problems. :-) good luck
