Looks MUCH better now! Those pet-shop-fakey scenery backgrounds are sooo bad looking.

First of all, I agree the tank looks way better with the natural look. I also have to agree that it would look even better with natural looking sand. Keep us posted when you change it. Amazing what some wood and a different background will do eh?

As far as the wood process, I can't say. Some people say you have to boil it for quite a while. You would need a pretty large container for that. I've always paid thru the nose from the store because I'm chickensh*t my tank will pick up something harmful.

Top 4 fish...need the tank size.

right on balton. yeah, i really wanted to go all out and do the fancy root wood. one single huge centerpiece and build around that....when i found one i liked and realized i was going to pay almost 200 dollars for roots, i had to rethink logically how important the tank really is. i'm as obsessed as the next person, but i do have two kids and a girl. and we're not as set in our careers as we would like to be...so finances could be better.

well...rent's paid and most of the bills are taken care of so the rest of the month is game on. i'll post pics as the tank progresses and thanks a bunch for the input and support.

oh yeah...it's a 55 gal long. would like to do a couple pair of semi aggressive natured species, a couple plecos, and possibly a lima cat and/or a few loaches.

6 fish max....small to medium size.
i have a 125 in storage that will be in action as soon as i get outta this apartment.

how would a couple red snooks do in my setup....anyone have any experience with these fish? i want a couple fish that enjoy feeders..but mostly a peaceful environment. some input would be great..pics would be better.

Red bay snooks would be fine, but only as a temp home in a 55g. They would then be fine in the 125g you have. I have 4 myself, they are about 5". They do seem to like place s to hide so your aquascaping would work well.

thanks for the heads up bud. for some reason i'm really liking the shape of the snooks....are there any "exotic" snooks i can look for or just the red bay?
