Painting a room with fish tank in it?

You could cover the tank while they are painting and make sure to turn off anything that might cause water movement. That should help you keep from introducing chemicals into the water column.

you could by no voc paint

Load up on carbon like one poster said. Water is such a good absorber of chemicals and odors, it always worries me when I have to deal with painting or staining around them.

Not sure what you plan to do with the air pump but you don't want any surface agitation in your tank while painting. That will cause the water and air to mix. Turn off filters, cover the tank, and do a big water change after the room airs out little.

All I do when I paint is turn off filters, and cover my tanks with a sheet for a few hours. Ventilate the room well to air it out faster, then use the fresh carbon.
