Hi All,

After a bit of info and advice, I currently have no background or anything on my tank and it is really getting to me! it's a big project considering how hard it will be for me to get my tank out etc but I want to paint the back sides and bottom of my tank black... however I don't know exactly what I want to use, I want a matt finish like the image below rather than a shiny one?

you can use like all purpose water based acrylic paint that's non toxic. use can use it on both Glass and Acrylic Aquariums. Also super easy to come off, in case if you don't like it, also use a sponge roller, so its a nice even professional look to it! also the matt black that u want, just the black piece of acrylic. unless you can find a matt black paint. Good Luck!

I've had painted tank and also vinyl ones. Never did I have to take them off so cant really say except that painted ones are easier to remove.
In my tanks now I usually go for black matt vinyl stickers for back, bottom and sometimes at the sides. Easier application and no hassle. No paint or sticker will give you the matt effect if you haven't applied it on the inside. As the glass will always be shiny. In one of the tank I stuck the black mat vinyl sticker from the inside to get he mat effect.

I use cheap dollar store acrylic paint (crafts paint for kids) and it works really well. It also comes off really easy. I've scratched off sections by accident with hobs and such.

Ok, cheers everyone, looks like I wont be able to get the matt black effect I am after without vinyling the inside of the tank...

Thanks anyway guys

I paint all my tanks now, it's so much better than lps backgrounds. When the paint is on the glass it dosent reflect so it will help with fish that like to rub. I also think it looks alot cleaner.
I use Apple Barrel Acrylic paint from Walmart, it's like $3-5 and it lasts as well. The more coats the darker it will be also so keep that in mind.

Black and blue are safe colors, they both look grate but my favorite is the green on my horn frog tank. I'm working on my 125 soon and I think I'll use the green agen!

Why would you paint the inside of the tank? Just paint the glass on the outside

anything on the outside of the tank is gonna leave the shiny glass on the inside so getting a matt effect isnt as easy. when I used to use the vinyl roll backgrounds they always looked better stuck inside the tank.
